Ground under repair (GUR)  In white-lined areas of ground under repair and the following areas relief may be taken under Rule 16.1;

  1. Tyre or tractor ruts through the putting area - not faint impressions.
  2. All drainage lines through and on the putting area.
  3. Damage caused by recent ground works and made up or sanded pathways other than those deemed out of bounds.
  4. Any severely worn areas - e.g. around winter mats, extensions of bridges, pathways and access areas at ends of ditches.
  5. Any roped off area, excluding bunkers except when COVID-19 precautions are in effect when all bunkers are GUR. 

If a player’s ball lies within the roped area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of the player’s intended swing, the player may take relief under Rule 16.1.

Out of bounds (Rule 18.2)

  1. Beyond any hedge or fence acting as a boundary to the golf course.
  2. In or beyond flower beds acting as a boundary to the course near the clubhouse.
  3. Beyond the ditches to the rear of 5th and 11th greens.
  4. The pond to the left and rear of the 14th green.
  5. A ball lying beyond the High Lane (paved path through course on 15th and 16th holes)
  6. A ball lying over the path at rear of 2nd green and beyond white posts at rear of 18th green.
  7. Beyond the ditch running from footbridge at 9th green to the top of 11th fairway.
  8. Beyond centre line of white stakes / trees separating 17th and 18th fairways - up to and including the last oak (17) and a line joining far edge of ditches (18).

Penalty Areas (all treated as is deemed a red penalty areas even if marked with yellow stakes)

  1. The pond to the front and immediate left and right of 14th green.
  2. The River Brent between the footbridges at the 7th and 13th holes.
  3. All other unmarked ditches.

Immovable obstructions (Rule 16)

  1. All fixed course furniture other than that part of a footbridge that lies over a penalty area.
  2. All fences other than boundary fences including the protective fencing behind the 1st, 3rd and 17th greens.
  3. Paling fences to thee right of 14th and 15th greens.
  4. All staked, banded or young trees.

Bunkers if your ball is in a footprint or animal print you may pick up, flatten the area, then drop without penalty. This action must be agreed by the person marking your card.

Preferred lies A ball lying on a closely mown area may be marked, moved or placed within 6 inches of where it originally lay, not nearer the hole, without penalty. Once moved the ball is in play. Note "closely mown area" means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less.

Leaves - the natural accumulation of leaves is to be treated as ground under repair when it's known or virtually certain that your ball is lost under leaves, you may find the nearest point of relief from the spot where the ball last crossed the outermost limit of the leaves, and take a drop, without penalty, within one club-length of that point, no closer to the hole (Rule 16-1).

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE:

Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes A player in any doubt with regards to a ruling should adopt the two ball rule (Rule 20.1) and seek a decision on completion of the round. Green marker posts to the side of fairways and yellow blocks in the centre of the fairway are 150 yards to the centre of the green.
